As the network rapidly expanded, Minute Media partnered with Pushly to build a scalable push notification strategy capable of driving engagement across hundreds of sites and audiences.
The Mission
Minute Media’s mission was to build a push notification channel that could scale across its rapidly expanding sports media ecosystem while remaining easy to manage.
The team needed a solution that could launch quickly across hundreds of domains, automate daily notifications, and provide clear reporting across a large portfolio of sites — all while allowing editorial teams to maintain control over key moments and breaking news coverage.
Implementation
Pushly partnered closely with the Minute Media team to implement a scalable push notification system across its network of sites.
Pushly’s development team rapidly onboarded hundreds of Minute Media properties, creating subscriber segments in bulk and implementing automated RSS-driven feeds to power daily notifications.
Automation became the foundation of the program. Across FanSided sites, automated sends delivered two to three notifications daily to “All Subscriber” segments across more than 175 domains. Across Sports Illustrated team pages, automated notifications were sent twice daily to segmented audiences across more than 236 team pages.
While automation powered the majority of sends, editorial teams retained flexibility to intervene when needed. For example, Arrowhead Addict disables automated sends during Kansas City Chiefs game days so editors can manually control notifications during high-interest moments.
Pushly also integrated automated reporting into Minute Media’s ecosystem, delivering performance data through S3 buckets and email digests so teams could easily monitor results across hundreds of properties.
